ABOUT THE BOOK

ABOUT SAFAR

As a ten-year-old Sikh boy, the author and his family experienced the violence and trauma of migration to India after the British drew a line demarcating India and Pakistan. Dr. Chattha examines the historical and political factors leading up to Partition, examining leadership and cultural forces. He shares the migration stories of himself and three other children in the only published first-person account of this event told from a Sikh child's perspective.

BOOK COVER ILLUSTRATION

BOOK COVER ART

Amrik came to us after trying a few illustrators, with none of them able to capture the image the author had in his head from childhood. He wanted a drawing of a boy around his age during the partition, wearing a white gown and a pug (head wrap for boys) running across a blood line. The line signifies the dividing line between India & Pakistan which are also featured in the backdrop embedded into the texture and coloring we worked through.

The last part of the design for the book was coming up with it’s own branding. We worked through a few fonts to get to the stylish ethnic font used, as well as the secondary font for sub text. The branding allowed us to build out promotional material and graphics to be used on the book tour and other assets created for the author.

BOOK SIGNING

BOOK SIGNING

Since this book was unique to the Sikh community, Amrik wanted to do a proper launch of the book as a good way to also sell copies and connect with the Punjabi & Indian community. The event featured live tabla, the release of the music video shot to expand on the book and a Q&A session with the author at SF’s own The Battery. The event was huge success, as the packed house stayed late to get books signed and chat with Amrik one on one.
